MEDIATORS
The artists and designers in this category manipulate our surrounding environment as an operative force to question societal placements. By creating objects that impact the space we inhabit and challenging how we interact with materiality, the Mediators force us to evaluate not only our spatial awareness but also our identities. In other words, objects are symbols of the things we do and that happen to us, the central masses orbited by our life experiences.
The Mediators amplify scale to make us more conscious of our bodies, catalyzing consideration of how we navigate physical, interpersonal, and collective space. While they may conjure atmospheres of play, contemplation, or rest, they are also working double time as personal, cultural, or political reckonings to which we must bear witness. A desire to challenge the perception of body, mind, and heart unifies the Mediators. Whatever the driving force, their objects ask: Will you walk around it, through it, turn your back, or do you dare face what is before you?
