KEEPERS
The Keepers have stories to tell and objects to do the storytelling. These artists and designers recognize that intangible entities such as identity, memory, and connection are at risk of dissipating without proper care and documentation. The objects they make embody this perception, and their creations make these concepts tangible. Concerned with preserving cultural and personal stories through unexpected formats, the makers in this group have developed methods of transferring knowledge at risk of being lost to time.
The Keepers are time travelers fusing past and present into artifacts for the future. Their work proposes alternative models of acknowledging the importance of cultures, languages, and moments that are often dismissed or forgotten. Taking it upon themselves to represent their histories and communities, they make living, growing, moving records that demonstrate how people and their legacies can live on through objects. Their output becomes reminders that longevity depends on us: If not cared for properly, culture remains as ephemeral as our distant memories.
